About the Journal

Journal of Peace and Gender (JPG) is an interdisciplinary, blind-reviewed publication dedicated to original research at the intersection of conflict, peace, and gender dynamics. Unlike traditional security studies, this journal emphasizes that peace and justice are shaped through everyday practices, community-based initiatives, and the plurality of lived realities. The journal adopts a robust interdisciplinary approach, integrating perspectives from Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, International Relations, Legal Studies, and Human Ecology. 

JPG welcomes contributions that explore these dynamics across a wide range of settings, including grassroots contexts, institutional and policy environments, as well as emerging areas such as digital peacebuilding and transitional justice. The journal encourages scholarship that is both empirically grounded and theoretically informed, contributing to critical discussions on conflict transformation, gender equity, and sustainable peace. 

JPG invites scholars, researchers, practitioners, activists, and critical thinkers to submit manuscripts for consideration as Research Articles or Book Reviews for Volume 1, Issue 1, scheduled for publication in November 2026. The editorial team seeks to publish six Research Articles and one Book Review that advance original theoretical insights, empirical findings, or critical perspectives relevant to peace and gender studies.

Our Core Philosophy

• Beyond Top-Down Approaches: Much scholarship approaches peace as a technical, top-down domain. We recognize that there is no single pathway to peace, but rather multiple processes formed through different histories and value systems.
• Plurality and Relationality: Peace encompasses relations of care, gender justice, and collective existence. We attend to localized practices where peace is negotiated in everyday life rather than solely through international policy frameworks.
• Productive Contestation: We view encounters between different perspectives—whether they involve collaboration or tension—as productive sites of inquiry for understanding alternative ways of organizing a peaceful life.
• Strategic Agency: Drawing on global gender perspectives, the journal emphasizes the need to bridge the gap between formal peace tables and grassroots activism, ensuring that gender justice is not peripheral but central to security debates.

Aims and Scope

JPG adopts a plural understanding of peace, recognizing that relations between individuals, communities, and institutions are shaped by distinct histories and gendered realities. We encourage contributions that examine how diverse perspectives on peace intersect with—and sometimes contest—state-led approaches and humanitarian interventions.

Key Areas of Interest include, but not limited to:

• Gendered Dynamics of Security: Gender-sensitive diagnosis of the impacts of violence and conflict on all genders.
• Feminist & Intersectional Peace: Critical approaches to conflict transformation and social justice.
• Strategic Participation: The role of women as proactive negotiators and leaders in formal and informal peace processes.
• Transitional Justice & Memory: Post-conflict reconciliation, the politics of memory, and the protection of human rights.
• Indigenous & Grassroots Movements: Community resilience, "everyday peace," customary knowledge, and activism related to food security, land access, and natural resources.
• Institutional Reform: Gender-aware leadership and the mainstreaming of gender perspectives within the military, police, and judiciary.
• WPS Agenda & Policy Critique: Critical engagement with the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) frameworks and international interventions.
• Care & Social Reproduction: Examining gender-based violence and care work in conflict settings.

Indexing

JPG is currently in the process of obtaining its ISSN/E-ISSN and preparing for the publication of its inaugural issue. Upon publication, all articles will be assigned a registered Crossref DOI to ensure persistent article identification and citation tracking. Following the publication of the first issue, the editorial team will progressively apply for inclusion in PKP Index, GARUDA (Garba Rujukan Digital), Google Scholar, Dimensions, and Index Copernicus International. Applications for DOAJ and SINTA accreditation will be submitted in accordance with Indonesian journal regulations and the eligibility requirements of each indexing service once the journal has established a consistent publication record. As a long-term strategic objective, the journal is also committed to pursuing inclusion in premier international databases, including Scopus, once high-tier national accreditation and international publication standards are firmly established.

All articles published from the inaugural issue onward will contribute to the journal's publication history for future SINTA accreditation and international indexing. Subject to the policies of each indexing database, previously published articles may be included retroactively once the journal is successfully accredited and indexed. The journal is committed to maintaining a rigorous blind-review process, high standards of scholarly publishing, publication ethics aligned with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines, and transparent editorial management from its very first issue.

Submission Guidelines

We welcome original submissions from researchers, academics, practitioners, activists, and critical thinkers. We are particularly interested in:

• Empirically Grounded Research: Using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods.
• Alternative Epistemologies: Work that draws on participatory, practice-based, and transdisciplinary approaches.
• Ethics of Research: Scholarly conversations on the ethics of peace research and knowledge systems.

Types of Contributions

The JPG journal welcomes submissions in the following categories:

• Research Articles: maximum 8,000 words, including references.
• Book Reviews: maximum 4000 words.

This publication cycle is not organized around a special theme. Authors are encouraged to submit original work that aligns with the journal's aims and scope while addressing contemporary interdisciplinary issues in peace, conflict, gender, and social transformation.

Authors are encouraged to submit their manuscripts before the deadline whenever possible. Earlier submissions will proceed through editorial screening and peer review sooner, allowing sufficient time for revisions requested by reviewers.

Review Process

Each manuscript will be subject to:

• Initial editorial screening;
• Blind review by independent experts; and
• Final editorial evaluation based on scholarly merit.

Review criteria include originality, conceptual clarity, methodological quality, analytical contribution, and relevance to the journal's focus on peace and gender.

Submission Requirements

Authors should submit:

• An original manuscript that has not been published or submitted elsewhere;
• A complete manuscript by 1 September 2026;
• A manuscript prepared according to the journal's author guidelines;
• Manuscripts should be written in English and submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

Publication Fees

In this Volume, JPG does not charge any article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees. Submission, review, and publication are provided at no cost to authors.
